aBOUT dsa FORT WORTH

We are the Tarrant County Local Chapter of Democratic Socialists of America, commonly known as DSA Fort Worth (DSA FW). We are a member-funded, member-led democratic socialist organization rooted in Tarrant County.

why we're here

We believe there should be a space for everyday working class people to organize around the issues that concern them like housing, labor, healthcare, immigration, and more. As nonprofits and NGOs are being defunded and the Democratic establishment has proven it can't deliver for working people, we need a new solution.

We are a mass-membership organization and our power comes from our members and supporters in our communities.

Our Structure

DSA Fort Worth Members

Steering Committee (SC) Between monthly general meetings, our elected SC handles day-to-day chapter administration. They work on chapter operations and administrative functions including overall task management, membership safety and privacy, communications, chapter engagement, financial development, and political education. All SC meetings are open to members in good standing and meeting notes are shared with the full membership. SC decisions require a majority vote or consensus as no one person has unilateral power.

Committees help build up our internal organizing capacity. We currently have four committees open to members with DSA Fort Worth including:

  • Growth & Development Committee — membership engagement, outreach, and fundraising

  • Tech & Security Committee — digital tools and operational security

  • Political Education Committee — education and ideological development

  • Comms & Design Committee — communications and visual identity

Working Groups tackle specific issues that bring people to DSA from housing to labor to healthcare. Any member can propose a new working group to target a new issue. Working Groups create campaigns and projects that advance the needs of the working class.

Our current working groups:

  • 🏠 Housing for All — tenants rights, canvassing efforts

  • 🗳️ Electoral — building socialist power in electoral politics

  • 🚫 Abolish ICE — immigrant justice, abolition

what does it mean to be in dsa?

DSA is a big tent organization. Most people who fall on the left can find a home here. Members hold a range of tactics and political beliefs, and we do it on purpose. What works in New York may not work in Tarrant County, but that doesn't mean we can't organize together. Our primary goal is to build collective power. Anything that brings more working class people into the fight matters.

Nationally, DSA has adopted the Workers Deserve More platform. Click here to view it!
